May Update

We have had a very busy few weeks in the valley with various meetings going on – Two key meetings:
Community Police Forum (22nd April)
Uthukela District Meeting about the roads (8th May)

The CDRA have actively participated in both these meetings alongside many local community members.
Yesterday the CDRA had their monthly committee meeting. Many issues facing the community were discussed at length.
Key Issues currently being prioritised:

Roads
Following the “Roads” meeting it has been reported that the roads department have a budget of R2 million to fix the R600 starting from the 21st May (The CDRA will monitor this and chase up to ensure action is taken). If this is not actioned, then the CDRA will take a team out and continue to fix the potholes (especially from Thokosiza and around the Scrumpy Jacks area).

We continue to hope for a long-term plan. It has been reported that the R600 from Winterton to Monks Cowl is to be completely replaced. But we will be waiting years rather than months for this to take place. The CDRA will continue to push for this project.

Safety & Security (Community Police Forum)
Thank you to those who attended this vital meeting.
This is an area of community life that needs further development and support. Many issues were raised and discussed.
Their committee is due to meet on the 20th May. We will await their feedback and plan going forward.

The Waste Centre
During the holiday week this became a “dumping ground” for waste which led to an untidy site.
New signs will be going up soon to indicate clearly how to manage your waste. Just a reminder that recycling ♻️ significantly reduces the impact on the waste disposal site.
Further updates will follow in the coming weeks.

Road Safety & Maintenance

The team have been out the past few days fixing potholes on the R600.

Thankful for a break in the weather! ☀️

Making the roads safe for all users.

PLEASE always adhere to the speed limit.

PLEASE give the road workers plenty of space when passing and do so slowly.

Thanks for your support, CDRA Committee

Pompom Weed Issue

Key Strategy

  1. Early detection and control is essential to mitigate harm.
  2. Use the following herbicides:

* Brush- off
* Access 240
* Climax
* Alliante

They can be purchased from Tugela Crop or Ryk Neetling shop (next to Build it) in Winterton.

  1. BEFORE removing the flowering heads you need to BAG them
  2. Then cut the stem
  3. Apply Herbicide (It lasts for approx 3-4 hrs so must be done before any rainfall)
  4. Bury seeds in a deep hole. (Burning can be problematic but may be effective if done correctly)

If you need any help accessing the correct herbicides or advice on how to directly apply please contact:
